The Sector Development Branch identifies and promotes agriculture and food production/processing systems that are sustainable and enhance the economic benefits to the province.? It maintains operations in all agriculture regions of the province to deliver Ministry programs and services through a network of Regional Agrologists and Industry Specialists.

The New Entrant Agrologist provides support and technical expertise to new producers to the agri-foods industry throughout British Columbia. The role builds capacity, supports business management and entrepreneurial skill development, increases awareness of programs and services, and encourages the use of sound management practices. ?Through frontline expertise, strategic relationships and a client service focus, the New Entrant Agrologist supports the effective implementation of the New Entrant Strategy and all aspects of developing and delivering programs, tools, resources and projects for new farmers and ranchers.

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education, experience and professional designation requirement as outlined below:

  • Bachelor of Science from an approved university specializing in agriculture or natural resource science.
  • 2 years or more of operational work experience in the livestock or crop production/ management.
  • Other relevant combinations of experience and education may be considered.
  • Must be registered or immediately eligible for registration as a Professional with the British Columbia Institute of Agrologists.

Note: Immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a professional in another Canadian jurisdiction and able to transfer that membership to a BC professional association within 6 months of employment. It is the responsibility of the applicant to have their qualifications reviewed by the appropriate body to ensure they have the necessary requirements for registration.

Please include your registration number with the British Columbia Institute of Agrologists (BCIA)?within your application?as you must be registered or?immediately?eligible for registration as a fully licensed Professional Agrologist (P.Ag.) with the BCIA.?If you are not yet registered with the BCIA, please explain how you are immediately eligible?(i.e. currently a fully licensed Registered Professional Agrologist member in good standing in another Canadian jurisdiction and can immediately transfer to the?BCIA).

Preferences may be given to applicants with the following qualifications:

  • Experience working with beginning farmer organizations, putting on educational events for new producers and/or working with new producers on business development
  • Experience in contract and project management
  • Experience in farm business management and/or community economic development
